A little bit about us and our new website. The purpose of this site if going to be to share our journey and how we are working to spend time outside and do the things we love like hiking and camping but still manage to lead a productive life at home. I always envy people who can travel their whole life or live in a van. At the same time I know that is definitely not the lifestyle for me or most people for that matter. Also I am a huge gear head so I will definitely be sharing my thoughts on the gear we use and how we set it up to make our weekends that much more manageable. Plus it’s and excuse to buy more stuff!!
About us: Our family of four moved in 2019 from Arkansas to New Mexico, BIG change! We have always loved to hike, camp, and just be outdoors but it’s something that looking back on our time in Arkansas we didn’t really take advantage of to the extent we should have. We did it in much the same way a lot of people do. Some hiking every now and then and a big camping trip once or twice a year that leaves you so worn out come Monday morning that you feel like you need a vacation from your vacation. It wasn’t a manageable way of doing things. So we made it our goal to take advantage of the change that the move brought to our lives and really enjoy the wonders of the outdoors to the fullest extent; which has been made even better with the relocation to the West. But most importantly to do it in a way that you can maintain a balance between an outdoor lifestyle and still living a “traditional” life.
What do I mean but a “traditional” life. I mean working two “normal” jobs at a solid at a solid 50 hours a week. Having a mortgage, car payments, chores, and just normal life stuff. I should probably mention that our family of four includes my wife, our 6 year old Siberian Husky “Lilly”, our 3 year old German Shepherd “Ripley”, and me. The fur babies are definitely part of the family. So I decided to create Day Hiker Chronicles as an example, how to, trips, and our tips on how you can live a normal life and still make plenty of time to get outside and enjoy everything the outdoors has to offer while still getting the yard mowed and the house vacuumed before Monday.
